Thoughts on Ronda Rich’s “Seductive Flirting”

Every year I re-read What Southern Women Know about Flirting by Ronda Rich. This book has been a staple in my library for the last 9 years! I first read this book the summer before my sophomore year in college (2008) and I have recommended it to almost every woman I have met since.

That summer was also my first time preparing for a sorority recruitment. That year, our brilliant and beautiful recruitment chair recommended this book as a summer reading to prepare for Fall recruitment. There is a whole section in this book about social flirting, which was primarily what we focused on in our workshops….I like to think it helped 🙂

However, beyond college, this book has seen me through so many seasons of life. I feel like every time I read it I learn something new. In addition to social flirting, which applies to how you may interact with strangers, friends, and work colleagues, Ronda Rich also talks about courtship and seductive flirting. I thought, given the nature of this blog, I would share some of her insights here regarding the latter.

In chapter twelve, The Fine Art of Winning his Heart with Red Silk and Black Lace, Rich discusses the importance of lingerie and self-care in seductive flirting.

One of the principal messages in this chapter is the importance of thinking “Beautiful Thoughts.” It all really does start there, doesn’t it? It’s no secrete that confidence is one of the most attractive qualities in another person. Lingerie, in my opinion, is an accessory (and a very important one) that helps facilitate a state of mind.

Rich also discusses the importance of beauty treatments, fragrance, and posture. With regard to beauty treatments, she simply recommends treating yourself well. That is to say, we all should establish a routine of pampering ourselves, whether that is with a bubble bath and glass of wine, or a tea party and lingerie…it is so important to spend time with yourself doing whatever makes you feel pretty. This also means wearing your silk gowns to bed every night, if only, and especially for yourself!
With regard to fragrance…Rich states that it should be a part of your self-care routine, but also a part of the seductive flirting process, as fragrance is a powerful aphrodisiac. She recommends dabbing it on before bed, occasionally spraying your pillows, and layering during the day. Note: Layering a fragrance helps with its lasting power. Layering is also all about the process; pampering yourself with lotion, powder, and then perfume.
My personal favorite is:

Coco Mademoiselle

Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle
You can find the lotion, powder, and perfume here!

Finally, she also stresses the importance of the “Perfect Match!” She writes this with regard to matching lingerie, stating that:
“Matching underneath is just as important as matching on top. When you wear sexy lingerie, you feel sexy. And when you feel sexy, you act sexy. It’s that simple. “

My take away from this chapter is that self-care builds self-love, and self-love builds confidence!! I hope you all decide to check out What Southern Women Know about Flirting, and some of Ronda Rich’s other work.
There really is something for everyone in this book ❤

Until next time,

xoxo

Nette Rose: Flirty Intimates Handmade in South Africa

Literally Nataly

Nette Rose is a gorgeous handmade intimates brand from South Africa. The brand was founded, designed, and produced by Megan Miller, using local fabric suppliers in Cape Town. In an Elle South Africa article she described how she named her brand “Nette Rose” (pronounced Nettie Rose) after her two “sensational and stylish” grandmothers, Nette, who bought her first pair of fabric scissors, and Rose, who sparked up the idea of Megan going to a fashion academy.

The brand has since reached Europe via Nic and Steff Fitzgerald, two Switzerland-based distributers who are also originally from South Africa. One day, they came across an article about Nette Rose, and in their words “immediately fell in love”. And I am not surprised! They are very happy to support “a young, responsible, South African brand!”

Nette Rose intimates are contributors to the slow fashion movement, handmade in South Africa with “fun, cheek, and a lot of laughs!” something that was a further…

Incorporating Lingerie into your Daily Style Part 2 (NYE)

Happy 2017!!!

Last week I shared some thoughts on incorporating lingerie into your daily style. This is a new venture for me, so I am sharing my experiences with this on the blog.

I tried out look#2 (you can read more on that here) last night.
My general thoughts on this outfit are:

I wore this jumpsuit and teddy combo out for dinner and drinks with my girlfriends last night, and I don’t think anyone even noticed this was lingerie!! I was a little nervous at first, because I am typically a more conservative person when it comes to how I dress. I sent out this photo to three of my closet friends, asking if it was “too much,” to which they gave me mixed reviews. I decided to just go for it and I honestly felt more comfortable wearing this than most of the clothes I wear on a daily basis.

Logistically speaking, I think you could go one of two ways with this particular outfit. When I ordered this jumpsuit, it was pictured on the model with a bralette underneath the mesh top. I think this is a darling option, especially if you are feeling super great about your body or if the weather is nice. However, I think for winter and for those of us still holding onto a few holiday pounds, the teddy is a nice alternative because it provides a little extra coverage in the torso area. It is also the slightly more conservative option…which I really like. Oh! And I really loved the lace and mesh combo.

With that, I am really feeling inspired to try out more looks like this & get more daily wear from my lingerie closet. I owe a great deal of gratitude to my sweet friend K. who fully embraces the “less is more” notion in her fashion choices. She really has given me so much courage to wear whatever I feel most comfortable in, regardless of what anyone thinks.

My lovely friend also has great taste, and deserves a style inspiration shout out!
I had to share her outfit from brunch today. She wore this gorgeous mesh bodysuit with metallic gold applique and paired it with black leggings. I think this is just such an elegant look (see more style inspiration like this here under look#3).

This bodysuit really is such a statement piece. Every time she wears it she is simply the most well dressed person in the room.

Unfortunately the boutique where she purchased this amazing piece closed this past October, but I still had to share…

Until next time ❤

Incorporating Lingerie into your Daily Style

This winter I have been loving the fact that mesh, tulle, velvet, and lace have made a huge style come-back. There is something oh so feminine about these delicate, and often sheer, fabrics. I also have seen an opportunity in this “less is more” notion to incorporate lingerie into my every day style! Doing so in a classy manner is, of course, tricky. However, I have found that, with a little effort, it can be done ❤

Here is some style inspiration for my favorite looks this winter:

1). Instead of a crop top, pair a cute bustier with a chic blazer and high waist pants (which will complement a high waist matching panty). This velvet bustier is perfect for the holidays and even comes in three colors (pictured here: Ensign, and Ruby Wine or Black)!

I think this is such a simple and classic look. Tie it together with timeless Mary Janes (these are very comfortable, by the way), a playful choker, and you’re ready to go!

2). I have been seeing mesh everywhere lately! I recently ordered this “semi-sheer mesh jumpsuit” and was surprised at how much I liked it (especially for the price!) Online it is pictured on the model with an adorable bralette. I like this, but as a slightly more conservative alternative, I tried it with a lace teddy and loved it!

I think these two teddies are perfect to pair with this particular jumpsuit, as they both have an open, strappy back that really adds to the look. The high neck teddy comes in six different colors, if you want to get really creative! In my opinion any of these combinations would be perfect. I just love the layering of lace and mesh. It is so feminine and subtly sexy!

3). Another thing I have been loving about winter fashion (in the lingerie world) are long sleeve bodysuits! These can really be paired with anything. I have worn them under a little black dress and with jeans. However, my favorite combination thus far has been to pair them with a little black skirt! Again this is such a simple look, but it is a great way to get daily wear out of your lingerie ❤
